Illinois Medical District Commission
Executive Director Position Description

The Illinois Medical District Commission (IMDC) was created in 1941 by the Illinois Medical District Act, making it a pioneer in designated empowerment zones for the advancement of innovations in healthcare. The District is a square mile of property located just two miles west of the Chicago loop at the heart of one of our nation’s richest concentrations of universities and hospitals.

Our mission is to be a leader in patient care and health care research utilizing our diversity and unique assets while driving economic growth. To fulfill this mission, the IMDC is charged with assembling, redeveloping, and operating the land to maximize the value of the District.

In 2012, the IMDC established a new strategic plan focused on economic growth, job development and patient care. Important initiatives are underway to support the four primary pillars of the plan: to continue to develop the infrastructure with appropriate real estate development; to support community health initiatives for the 50,000 patients who visit each day; to foster translational research by promoting an efficient continuum of research, clinical trials and commercialization; and curating, managing and leveraging clinical data for the benefit of our patients and constituents.

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive of the IMDC and has responsibility for its daily operations, the implementation of its strategic plan and the overall furthering of its mission. The Executive Director reports to the President of the IMDC, a 7 member board with four commissioners appointed by the Governor of the State of Illinois, two by the Mayor of Chicago and one by the President of Cook County.
