Located in the Illinois Medical District, Vertiport Chicago is 10-acre $11 million privately funded facility serving both helicopters and the next-generation tiltrotor aircraft. Vertiport Chicago brings private helicopter access to downtown for the first time since the closure of Meigs Field in 2003.

Job Opening: Data Analyst/Data Manager at Breathe Chicago Center

The Breathe Chicago Center© within the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking to fill a Data Analyst/Data Manager position.

The data manager is responsible for all data management activities including database development, database maintenance, quality control, and reporting to support clinical and population health research activities at the Breathe Chicago Center©.


Essential Functions:


45% Data analysis responsibilities will include working with investigators to support the development of research reports (including presentations, manuscripts, grants). This will involve proficiency with statistical programs (e.g. SAS, SPSS, STATA) to analyze data, interpret findings, and generate tables and figures. The data analyst must be able to effectively communicate and present data in a technical and non-technical manner for a wide range of audiences.

45% The data manager is responsible for meticulous data management for multiple ongoing research studies, including: database development and maintenance, performance of regular database updates and quality control functions, data abstraction, interpretation and organization. They are also responsible for resolving issues related to missing data and analyzing data to identify missing, incomplete, or invalid information. They will ensure accuracy of source data by running quality checks, and perform analysis to establish accuracy of data entered. The data manager will assist in designing, developing, testing, documenting, and supporting research reports and quantitative processes. The data manager will proactively review current data entry processes for efficiency and identify process improvements and best practices. 

10% Other duties as appropriate for a clinical research data manager/analyst.


Education / training: Master’s degree preferred, and at least 3 year work experience creating and/or managing database(s) preferred.  Proficiency with statistical packages (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA) required. .Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (e.g. ACCESS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as proficiency developing databases to support clinical research (e.g. using REDCap, SQL, ACCESS) required. Familiarity with medical terminology and records preferred.

The Illinois Medical District Commission (IMDC) was created in 1941 by the Illinois Medical District Act, making it a pioneer in designated empowerment zones for the advancement of innovations in healthcare. The District is a square mile of property located just two miles west of the Chicago loop at the heart of one of our nation’s richest concentrations of universities and hospitals.

Our mission is to be a leader in patient care and health care research utilizing our diversity and unique assets while driving economic growth. To fulfill this mission, the IMDC is charged with assembling, redeveloping, and operating the land to maximize the value of the District.

In 2012, the IMDC established a new strategic plan focused on economic growth, job development and patient care. Important initiatives are underway to support the four primary pillars of the plan: to continue to develop the infrastructure with appropriate real estate development; to support community health initiatives for the 50,000 patients who visit each day; to foster translational research by promoting an efficient continuum of research, clinical trials and commercialization; and curating, managing and leveraging clinical data for the benefit of our patients and constituents.

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive of the IMDC and has responsibility for its daily operations, the implementation of its strategic plan and the overall furthering of its mission. The Executive Director reports to the President of the IMDC, a 7 member board with four commissioners appointed by the Governor of the State of Illinois, two by the Mayor of Chicago and one by the President of Cook County.
